6-12 Virtual Learning Experience
Here are some highlights of what to expect for your middle or high school student’s virtual experience!
Students will participate daily in a combination of live, or synchronous instruction and pre-recorded or asynchronous instruction. For live instruction, students will utilize Zoom to connect with their teachers and classmates for daily lessons in math and literacy, and weekly live lessons in science, social studies, arts and more. There will be a combination of whole class, small group, peer to peer and individual live Zoom meetings.
On Mondays and Thursdays, our high school students will attend their 1st, 2nd and 5th period classes. On Tuesdays and Fridays, students will attend 3rd, 4th, 6th and 7th period classes. After each live, or synchronous lesson, teachers will offer office hours followed by collaborative, guided work opportunities.
Middle and High School
Every Wednesday, all MMSD students will participate in pre-recorded lessons, allowing teachers time for professional learning and lesson planning. Pre-recorded lessons will be offered to support flexible family schedules, and will always be available for students to review anytime.
Attendance will be taken every day. Students will be considered present by attending synchronous, or live, real-time instruction in Zoom, by completing and submitting an asynchronous, or independent learning task assigned by the teachers in Google Classroom, or by communicating with the teacher of the course for each class, each day that it appears on their schedule through phone call, email, text or virtual office hours.
Every middle and high school student will be assigned an advisor who will regularly check in with your student and support them throughout virtual learning.
